With the coronavirus pandemic from 2020 on, educational institutions were suddenly faced with the question of how courses and teaching could continue despite the lockdown. One solution was to switch to online teaching.

REMOKING is an Erasmus+ fundet project aiming at providing materials for teachers to help them transition from traditional classroom teaching to various forms of online teching - where needed or desired.

Remoking is an abbreviation for the full project title Impact of remote working ontraining and teaching practice. The project was initiated by the Swedish partner Hälsinglands Utbildningsförbund - a provider of two vocational training centers in the rural region of Hälsingland in central Sweden - with funding from the European Union's Erasmus+ programme. Other project partners were the Estonian training provider Vestifex from Narva, a town on the border with Russia; the family-run Irish education and social work provider Future in Perspective from the small town of Virginia; the adult and youth education organization Forum Citoyens-Burgers from Brussels (Belgium) and the French association AGFE from the Paris region, which coordinates project work for various education providers in the country.

In the Remoking project, these six very different organizations brought together their experiences and perspectives on online teaching.

The project ran from November 2022 to April 2025 and has three main products:

1) Collection of good practice: In book form, the six organizations present a wide variety of approaches on how to organize online learning in a better, more interesting, more effective and more integrative way. The examples from six countries range from simple tools and pedagogical methods that can be used to keep learners engaged in online lessons; to methods of how even practical vocational skills can be practiced online instead of in a workshop or laboratory; to very "large" solutions where entire networks of universities work together to provide high-quality learning materials across higher education topics free of charge; or how digital skills of learners can be systematically considered by an educational institution as early as the course planning stage.

2) The "Training Kit" - a self-learning course for educators, teachers and trainers who have experience in conventional teaching environments such as classrooms or seminars (i.e. face-to-face teaching), but have little or no experience with the changed situation in online teaching, for example if they want (or have to) teach a class or group via a video conferencing program. The material is divided into six modules on the following topics: 1) Basics 2) Switching over 3) Teaching methodology 4) Creating materials 5) Tools and techniques 6) Practical online learning. The material essentially consists of a fairly extensive set of presentation slides, supplemented by practical examples (case studies) and, in some cases, suggestions for active exercises. The VHS Hannover has contributed module 6 in particular - an introduction to concepts and methods of learning professional practice.
